* The GS pump is used for pumping bilges, supplying water to the fire main and on certain Lochs to transfer ballast water. Most of the Lochs have similar pump arrangements –

MV Loch Striven and her 3 sisters have 2 electrically driven GS pumps, one normally set on the fire main and one set to engine room bilge as other than grounding or collision, flooding from loose or damaged pipe work is a common cause of flooding. This also saves time if an emergency occurs. She also has a hand start diesel emergency pump for fire or bilge pumping in case of electrical (generator) power failing.
